CSK star and Gujarat captain Urvil Patel smashes 31-ball 100 in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy
Gujarat captain Urvil Patel smashed a 31-ball hundred, riding on 11 fours and eight sixes, against Services at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad on the opening day of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
Batting first, Services made 182 for nine.
In response, Gujarat openers Urvil and Aarya Desai pummelled the Services attack, putting on a 174-run opening stand in what turned out to be a facile run chase. Urvil finished unbeaten on 37-ball 199, having smashed 12 fours and 10 sixes.
Urvil, who played for the Chennai Super Kings last IPL, was retained by the Men in Yellow ahead of this year’s mini auction.
In IPL 2025, it was Urvil’s strike rate that stood out. In three innings, one of which ended in a two-ball duck, he smashed 68 at over 200.
Interestingly, Gujarat’s Urvil, who topped the sixes charts, with 29 in six innings at Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 and also holds the record for the joint second-fastest T20 century (off 28 balls), had gone unsold at the 2025 IPL mega auction.
He was eventually drafted in as replacement for Vansh Bedi.
