Zverev Defeats Home Hope Basavareddy in Cincinnati Opener
German third seed Alexander Zverev began his ATP Cincinnati Open campaign with a decisive victory, defeating American wild card Nishesh Basavareddy 6-3, 6-3 in a second-round match that lasted just over an hour.
Zverev, the 2021 Cincinnati champion, showcased his strong form, never facing a break point and consistently dominating with his serve. He fired 12 aces and won an impressive 82% of his first-serve points, ultimately proving too powerful for the young American.
While Basavareddy, a rising star, showed flashes of his potential, the experience and consistent power of the world No. 3 proved to be the deciding factor. Zverev will now advance to the third round to face American Brandon Nakashima.
