Jack Grealish set to join Everton with medical scheduled ahead of loan move
Jack Grealish is set to complete a medical at Everton on Monday after the club reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign the winger on a season-long loan.
The 29-year-old has been widely expected to leave City this summer, having been omitted from Pep Guardiola’s squad for the Club World Cup.
Everton have led the chase for his signature despite his substantial reported wages of £300,000 per week, and now look close to finalising the deal for the England international, who has fallen down the pecking order under Guardiola.
Grealish featured 32 times in all competitions last season, starting only half of those matches, with just seven Premier League starts.
It marks a notable decline from his importance in the 2022-23 campaign, when he played a key role in City’s Treble-winning side that lifted the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
Since joining from Aston Villa in 2021 for a then-British record fee of £100 million, Grealish has made 157 appearances for City, scoring 17 goals and registering 23 assists.
His honours include three league titles, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup, and a starring role in that historic Treble season.
Earlier this year, Guardiola expressed his desire for Grealish to return to that level of form.
He said: “Do I want the Jack that won the Treble? Yeah I want it, but I try to be honest with myself for that.
“They have to fight. You can say it’s unfair. OK, if you think that, then it’s fine, but you have to prove [to me],
“‘OK, I’m going to fight with Savinho, to deserve to play in that position’, every single day, every single week and every single month.
“I don’t have any doubt about the quality of Jack or any of these players. I fought a lot for him… I know that he can do it because I saw him.”
Everton boss David Moyes has been a long-time admirer of Grealish, once describing him as “probably the best player in the Premier League right now” during his time at Aston Villa.
His arrival would represent a marquee signing for the club as they prepare to move into the new 52,769-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
