WPL Auction 2026: N. Shree Charani sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs. 1.3 crore

Shree Charani’s rapid ascent in Indian cricket continued at the WPL auction as the left-arm spinner was sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 1.3 crore after emerging as one of the most sought-after names on the back of a breakthrough year at the international level.

The base was Rs. 30 lakh and UP Warriorz opened the bidding. Delhi Capitals, her first WPL franchise, joined the contest. The UP-DC duel marched on to Rs. 75 lakh. Warriorz dropped out with DC in control, only for a late twist as UP jumped back in at Rs. 90 lakh. DC responded instantly, pushing the bid to Rs. 1.3 crore, eventually sealing the deal.

Uncapped heading into WPL 2025, Charani had already announced her arrival with an intense bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians before eventually being picked up by DC for Rs. 55 lakh. Since then, her reputation has only grown. A bowler trusted across phases, Charani has built her value on control, composure and the rare ability to deliver under pressure, traits that captains covet in the shortest format.

Her stocks surged further in 2025 as she played a key role in India’s ODI World Cup triumph, bagging 14 wickets (second-most for India). Remarkably, as late as June she was still viewed as an unlikely starter, making her rise to a World Cup mainstay all the more striking.
