Will India, Pakistan players shake hands during their T20 World Cup 2026 clash?

India captain Suryakumar Yadav remained tight lipped on whether his side will shake hands with its opponent Pakistan during their T20 World Cup 2026 fixture at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

In the three Asia Cup 2025 matches against Pakistan, Indian players refused to shake hands with Pakistan’s camp before and after the game—a customary exercise followed across the sports.

When queried if a similar stance will be taken on Sunday, Suryakumar said: “Just wait a bit, you will know tomorrow, just have your food, sleep well tonight.”

Pakistan captain, Salman Agha, on the eve of the fixture, said the game should be played in the same spirit.

“What I expect, obviously, does not matter. But I feel that the game should be played the same way as it has been since the beginning of cricket. The rest is up to them and whatever they want to do,” Agha said.
