Dewald Brevis took a stunning diving catch to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad during the first ODI between India and South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday.
Fielding at point, Brevis made a full stretch dive towards his right to grab a one-handed catch of Gaikwad’s powerfully struck drive — a reaction time of 0.38 seconds, as broadcasters showed later.
Batting at number four, Gaikwad could only score 8 off 14 balls before Brevis spoiled his party.
Gaikwad is making his return for India after nearly two years. The 28-year-old last played in December 2023, that too against South Africa in Gqeberha. This is Gaikwad’s seventh ODI; he has so far scored 123 runs with a highest score of 71.
