Vijay Shankar announces retirement from IPL and domestic cricket
Former India and Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar has announced his retirement from IPL and domestic cricket in order to pursue further playing opportunities.
Shankar, who represented Tamil Nadu and Tripura in domestic cricket, made 4235 runs and took 43 wickets in 77 First-Class appearances. He also appeared in 112 List A matches and 159 T20s.
“I am grateful and blessed to have played at every level and to the highest level. Representing our country will always be one of my proudest and happiest moments,” Shankar said in a statement on social media.

He was part of the Tamil Nadu teams that won the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy, the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy, and back-to-back Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy editions in 2020-21 and 2021-22. He was also captain for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy victories.
In the IPL, Shankar scored 1233 runs and took nine wickets in 78 apperances for Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils, and Gujarat Titans.
He also represented India in 12 ODIs and eight T20Is, including the 2019 ODI World Cup.
