TN coach Senthilnathan urges batters to step up, says 1 point the only positive against Vidarbha
After managing to get a hard-fought draw against Vidarbha and avoid a humiliating defeat, Tamil Nadu coach M. Senthilnathan minced no words in stating that the batters need to step up.
“Our batting is not clicking. Scoring against Nagaland is not enough. We were good at 252 for four on day one, and had we got another 100-150 runs, it would have been a different game. The only positive was that we saved this game, but other than that, I can’t take any other positives from this,” said Senthilnathan.

The former TN player also felt that there needs to be more systemic changes to ensure the batters are technically equipped to play at this level. The fact that frontline batters were missing straight deliveries and getting bowled exposed the technical inadequacies in tackling the pacers.
“It is becoming a huge concern to see batters getting bowled to straight deliveries. Either they get across and are trapped leg-before, or to avoid that, they are playing beside the line and getting bowled,” said the TN head coach.
“But at the same time, I won’t fully blame these boys for the way they are playing. In our first division, they hardly play fast bowlers, and when you come to this level, 70% of what they are going to face is seamers. Unless we play quality fast bowling back home, we can’t expect them to be able to play,” he added.
Tamil Nadu has made four changes for the next game against Andhra in Vishakhapatnam.
N. Jagadeesan and B Sachin return to the squad, having recovered from an injury and Chicken pox, respectively replacing SR Athish and M. Shahrukh Khan. Meanwhile, left-arm spinner P. Vidyuth will replace DT Chandrasekar while P. Saravana Kumar comes in place of Lokesh Raj.
