Telangana Lokayukta orders CID probe into

Lokayukta of Telangana has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to complete the probe into alleged large scale financial irregularities against Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) within four weeks.

Acting on complaints submitted by the Telangana Cricket Association (TCA), Justice Rajashekhar Reddy has directed the CID to investigate the allegations against HCA and submit a report within four weeks.

“The complainants reportedly allege financial irregularities exceeding ₹600 crore over the last fifteen years, unauthorized transfer of 18 GHMC-affiliated cricket clubs to private individuals, and an alleged transfer of ₹69 crore from HCA funds to Visaka Industries,” he said.

This comes a day after the Telangana High Court directed HCA to release ₹27 lakh in pending cricket development grants to Mahmood Cricket Club and implement an order passed by its Ombudsman. Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka, allowing a writ petition filed by the club, directed the HCA to clear the dues within eight weeks.

HCA’s inaugural TG20 League – scheduled to get underway on June 21 – is also facing legal hurdles.

Two of the state’s cricketers, Gourav Sharma and M. Mahender Reddy, have filed proceedings before the High Court questioning the legality and validity of the tournament. They have sought its immediate suspension, stating stated that the league’s status and governance structure were not disclosed to those taking part in it.

Earlier this week, TCA also issued legal notices to actors Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh Daggubati over their association with the TG20 League. It said that the actors’ public association with the league could create “a potentially misleading impression among young aspiring cricketers, sponsors, investors, media houses, and the general public that all regulatory, administrative, and statutory governance requirements have been duly complied with by the organisers.”
