Tamil Nadu beats Uttar Pradesh by 56 runs to clinch Men’s U-23 State A Trophy

Tamil Nadu Under-23 side defeated Uttar Pradesh Under-23 convincingly by 56 runs in the final to clinch the State A Trophy Elite at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

Chasing a target of 298, Uttar Pradesh was bowled out for 241 with Tamil Nadu’s S Mohamed Ali picking a five-wicket haul.

For UP, Prashant Veer, batting at number seven, top scored with 87 off 65 balls with the help of seven fours and five sixes and Sameer Rizvi was the next best batter scoring 41 off 52 deliveries.

However, lack of contribution from the rest of the batters made it tough for UP — something that helped TN during its batting, with three batters going past fifty-run mark and two getting into 30s.

S R Athish (53), Mohamed Ali (57), and Manav Parakh (57) scored half-centuries while captain Boopathi Vaishna Kumar M and RK Jayant scored 37 and 32 respectively.

A combined batting effort helped Tamil Nadu reach 297 before getting bundled out in the last over. For UP, Prashant picked up three for 30 in his 10 overs, but his all-round effort wasn’t enough to clinch the trophy.
