SMAT 2025-26: Yashasvi Jaiswal to play for Mumbai in Super League stage; Rohit unlikely
Yashasvi Jaiswal will turn up for Mumbai in the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26.
Coming on the back of a century in the third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, the star India batter has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he will link up with the Mumbai team in Pune on December 11.
“I spoke to him this morning, and he confirmed his availability for the SMAT, and it will certainly be a big boost to the team,” Mumbai’s chief selector Sanjay Patil told Sportstar.
However, contrary to speculations, Rohit Sharma is unlikely to feature in the T20 tournament for Mumbai as the state association is yet to hear from him.
After an impressive campaign in the group stage in Lucknow, where it topped Elite Group A, Mumbai will travel to Pune for the Super League, and multiple sources confirmed that Rohit has yet to inform the MCA of his participation.
Before joining the Indian team for the Tests and the ODIs against South Africa, Jaiswal had featured in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. The young batter last appeared in the SMAT in a quarterfinal clash in the 2023-2024 season, but could not feature in the last edition due to international commitments.
Jaiswal has featured in 28 matches in the SMAT, with a score of 648 runs in 26 innings. He scored three fifties in the tournament.
