Shreyas Iyer discharged from hospital, to remain in Sydney for further evaluation

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a hospital in Sydney after receiving treatment for a blunt abdominal injury sustained while fielding during India’s third ODI against Australia on October 25.

A statement from the BCCI confirmed that India’s ODI vice-captain was stable and recovering well, having undergone a minor procedure and appropriate medical management for the injury. He will remain in Sydney for follow-up consultations and return to India once he is deemed fit to fly.

Shreyas suffered the injury while completing a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey during the final ODI against Australia. He appeared to be in immediate discomfort and left the field to undergo further evaluation at a hospital, where he was later admitted to the ICU after his vitals dropped due to internal bleeding.

Doctors subsequently diagnosed a laceration to his spleen. However, Shreyas was soon stabilised and moved out of the ICU on Monday.

He took to Instagram on Thursday to confirm that he was recovering, saying, “I’m currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received. It truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.”
