Ranji Trophy: Vaibhav Suryavanshi hits maiden First-Class fifty off just 33 balls, misses 37-year-old record
Bihar batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi on Tuesday notched up his maiden First-Class fifty during his side’s Ranji Trophy Plate-group game against Meghalaya in Patna.
The 14-year-old, who named the vice-captain of the side ahead of this season, raced away to the mark in just 33 balls with the help of six fours and two maximums.
The teenager was in the reckoning to become the youngest centurion in Ranji Trophy history, breaking the 37-year-old record belonging to Dhruv Pandove, but fell on 93 when he was pinned in front by Bijon Dey.
The performance was the latest in his string of blazing essays that have led to his meteoric rise. He struck a 52-ball ton against the England Under-19 side earlier this year, smashing the record for the fastest century in Youth ODIs.
On Tuesday, he was also included in the Indian squad for the Rising Star Asia Cup.
He rose to prominence during the Indian Premier League this year, when he struck a 35-ball hundred for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans, the second-fastest in the history of the tournament.
