Gun Runner Colt Rises to the Top at $2.2M at Keeneland
A bay colt by leading sire Gun Runner grabbed the title of highest-priced weanling late into the Nov. 4 opening session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale when agent Donato Lanni went to $2.2 million on behalf of Zedan Racing.
Denali Stud consigned the colt that was bred out of grade 1 winner and stakes producer Nickname by Three Chimneys Farm and Brookdale Racing. Nickname, a 12-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy, won the 2015 Frizette Stakes (G1) at 2 and placed in three other graded stakes at 3 and 4. As a broodmare, she is the dam of Irish group 3 winner Ides of March , a son of Wootton Bassett.
Gun Runner, currently the third-leading North American sire by progeny earnings, stands at Three Chimneys for $250,000. He ranks co-second through Nov. 4 behind leading sire Into Mischief by number of 2025 grade 1 winners with four.
