Ranji Trophy: Karnataka qualifies for quarterfinals after dramatic win over Punjab


Karnataka pulled off one of the most stunning wins in the ongoing season of the Ranji Trophy against Punjab at the IS Bindra Cricket Stadium in Mohali on Sunday.

With 250 runs to chase on the final day, the odds were stacked against the visiting side.

But skipper Devdutt Padikkal became the knight in shining armour for Karnataka as he smashed a swashbuckling 85-ball 120 to help his side cross the finish line and qualify for the knockouts in a dramatic fashion. His innings saw him smash five sixes and six fours.

Karnataka, with the five-wicket win, finished second in Group B with 27 points, behind leader Madhya Pradesh. The quarterfinal will see Padikkal’s side lock horns against an unbeaten Mumbai.
