Nagal Through to Round of 16 at ATP 100 Chisinau Challenger With Straight-Sets Win
Sumit Nagal began his ATP Chisinau Challenger campaign on a positive note, seeing off qualifier 🇺🇿 Sergey Fomin in straight sets to book his place in the second round.
India No. 1 Nagal came out of the blocks sharply in the first set, racing to a 3-0 lead and extending it to 5-2. With the set seemingly in hand, Nagal had multiple chances to close it out but Fomin dug in and clawed back to 5-4, making it tight. Nagal held his nerve though, converting on his next set point to take the opener 6-4.
The second set told a cleaner story. Nagal again jumped out to a 3-0 lead — and this time held the advantage without concession, maintaining his level to close it out 6-2 with considerably less drama than the first.
The second round brings a considerably stiffer test — Second seed 🇨🇿 Zdenek Kolar, ranked ATP 162, stands between Nagal and a quarterfinal spot.
