Most hundreds in Ranji Trophy: Paras Dogra moves up to second spot with 32nd century against Mumbai
Jammu & Kashmir captain Paras Dogra smashed his 32nd century in the Ranji Trophy during the opening round against Mumbai at the Sher-e-Kashmir in Srinagar on Thursday to become the second-most prolific century-maker in the history of the First-Class tournament.
Dogra went past former India batter Ajay Sharma’s tally of 31 hundreds in the Ranji Trophy, and is now second only to Wasim Jaffer’s 40 tons in the competition.
The 40-year-old is also second to Jaffer in the list for batters with most runs in the Ranji Trophy. Dogra has accumulated over 9,500 runs in the tournament, while Jaffer has amassed 12,038.
Dogra ended the second day’s play against Mumbai unbeaten on 112 off 169 balls, with his knock comprising 16 fours. His effort with the bat helped the host recover from a precarious 2 for 2 in the second over in reply to Mumbai’s 386 in the first innings.
Dogra struck vital partnerships with Abdul Samad (94 runs) and Abid Mushtaq (68) for the fourth and seventh wicket, respectively, to mount Jammu & Kashmir’s recovery.
Having made his First-Class debut in 2001-02, Dogra represented Himachal Pradesh for over a decade before shifting base to Pondicherry ahead of the 2018-19 season. The right-handed batter moved to Jammu & Kashmir ahead of the 2024-25 season, and led the team to the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal. His team’s spectacular run to the last eight included consecutive wins over heavyweights Mumbai and Baroda. However, as a batter, Dogra had a forgettable season, with an average of 27.84 and just one century in 14 innings.
