K.L. Rahul returns as Devdutt Padikkal named captain for Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy clash vs Punjab
India international K.L. Rahul has been named in Karnataka’s squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy fixture against Punjab, to be played in Mohali from January 29.
Rahul’s inclusion bolsters a Karnataka side that will be led by Devdutt Padikkal. The squad also features fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, adding further firepower to the pace attack. Veteran batter Karun Nair has been ruled out of the fixture, dealing a blow to Karnataka’s middle-order experience.
The match assumes added significance with Group B locked in a four-way race for two knockout spots. Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Saurashtra remain in contention. Maharashtra faces Madhya Pradesh in what could effectively be a knockout clash for both sides, while Saurashtra takes on Chandigarh.
Karnataka, meanwhile, will be desperate for a win after suffering a 217-run defeat to Madhya Pradesh in Alur in their last outing.
