Jamieson’s celebration is actually a compliment to Sooryavanshi, says RR’s Vikram Rathour
Kyle Jamieson’s reaction after dismissing cricket’s wunderkind Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is one of the enduring images from Friday night’s IPL clash between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. The tall Kiwi seamer could barely contain his excitement, what if his victim was half his age, and about half his size, as well.
Jamieson’s excitement is understandable. Sooryavanshi is as dangerous at the top of the order as anyone at the IPL at the moment. The New Zealander, however, has been handed a demerit point.
Royals’ batting coach Vikram Rathour, shortly after the match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, said Jamieson’s celebration was actually a compliment to Sooryavanshi. “Obviously, he was excited, and that is a compliment for Vaibhav, that people are feeling so happy after getting him out,” he said. “You can’t expect him to score every time. And I thought our score of 225 was enough on this surface.”
Rathour said it was important that batters like Donovan Ferriera contributed. “It gives a lot of confidence to the team that we are not dependent on just one or two players,” he said. “It is really positive. The work, however, has to be done on how to defend the score put by the batters. It is important to have a good PowerPlay but we gave away a lot of runs without picking up wickets.”
