India veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma on Sunday put together a 100-run partnership during the first ODI against South Africa at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.

The two joined forces when opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was caught behind off Nandre Burger with India’s score at 25, and brought up the century stand in just 82 balls. This was the 20th stand of 100 runs or more between the two.

Virat completed his 76th ODI half-century in just 48 balls with a maximum against Corbin Bosch. Rohit was even quicker, getting his half century, the 60th in ODIs, in just 43 balls.

The alliance ended on 136 runs when Rohit was nabbed leg before wicket by Marco Jansen on 57 runs off 51 balls. Rohit and Virat had also added 168 runs for the second wicket in the last match they played, against Australia in Sydney.
