New Zealand will be making its second T20 World Cup final appearance when it faces India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
New Zealand has played eight games so far and won five while game was washed out.
It started its campaign with a convincing five-wicket victory over Afghanistan, a game where it shot down a target of 183 runs inside 18 overs. Its openers Tim Seifert and Finn Allen ran the show in the second group-stage match against the United Arab Emirates. Set a target of 174 runs, New Zealand scaled the total in the 16th over and won by 10 wickets.
Its first defeat in the tournament came at the hands of the Proteas, who won by seven wickets in Ahmedabad. But New Zealand fired back in style by defeating Canada by eight wickets in its final group stage game.
The Black Caps moved to Colombo for their Super Eight leg, where the first match against Pakistan was washed out due to rain.
In the second match, New Zealand rode on Mitchell Santner and Cole McConchie’s late pyrotechnics to prevail over co-host Sri Lanka by 61 runs.
England handed another setback to the Kiwis in their final Super Eight game as Will Jacks and Rehan Ahmed wrested the contest from New Zealand’s grasp by chasing 160, getting 43 runs off the final three overs.
New Zealand had to rely on Pakistan’s result to squeeze through to the semifinals on net run rate. In the last four, Allen struck the fastest century in T20 World Cups to brush aside an unbeaten South Africa by nine wickets.
With just one more win on Sunday, New Zealand could become the seventh nation to lift the T20 World Cup.
