IND vs NZ: India registers second-fastest 150-plus chase in T20I history
India registered the second-fastest successful run chase of 150 or more runs during the third T20I against New Zealand in Guwahati on Sunday.
The Men in Blue chased down New Zealand’s 154-run target in exactly 10 overs, only slower than Australia’s successful 155 chase in 9.4 overs against Scotland in September 2024.
India rushed to the target thanks to the World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma’s belligerent 20-ball 68 and skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s 26-ball 57. The duo struck an undefeated 102-run alliance for the third wicket to help India to an eight-wicket win and take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
This was also India’s biggest win at home, in terms of balls remaining, in a 20-over match. With 60 balls remaining, the win surpassed India’s previous fastest at home, when it chased Bangladesh’s 129-run target with 49 balls to spare in Gwalior in October 2024.
In the last match, India had broken Pakistan’s record for the fastest chase of 200 runs or more in T20Is, overhauling the Kiwis’ 209-run target in 15.2 overs in Raipur.
