IND vs AUS, Women’s ODI World Cup 2025: India aware of batting woes, working on rectifying them, says Sneh

The cracks caused by India’s top order failures at the Women’s ODI World Cup have been, so far, papered over by the lower middle-order making vital contributions with the willow.

While Amanjot Kaur and Richa Ghosh have done well to take India to respectable totals against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and South Africa, they have been well supported by the likes of Sneh Rana, who has either done well to dig in and rotate strike or swing her bat and find the boundary on a regular basis.

Ahead of the clash with Australia at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, Sneh stated that the team is aware of its batting woes and is working on rectifying them.

“All the batters are working on their strengths, and everyone knows where they need to improve. Each player is also taking individual training for that. If we talk about strike rate, whatever has been lacking in the past few months, everyone is aware of it, and as a team, we discuss it, regroup and work towards improving it,” she said.

On her good form with the bat, she admitted that she has consciously worked on her ‘power hitting’ to make the most of the deliveries she gets.

“Personally, I’ve been working more on my batting. I knew which situations I was likely to get the chance to bat in, so I have always prepared for that cameo. I’ve been focusing on hard-hitting for the past few months,” she added.

The 31-year-old also brushed aside any concerns about the Women in Blue’s struggles with left-arm spin.

“I don’t think it’s a major concern because our batters have handled these situations very well in the past. Ups and downs are part and parcel of the game; they can happen anytime. But we have some of the best batters in the world on our side. It’s just a matter of one good knock and I’m hopeful they’ll bounce back very soon,” she said.

The other bone of contention for India has been the decision to go with five bowlers. While there have been calls for the management to go with six bowling options, starting with the clash with Australia, Sneh remained tight-lipped about the team composition.

“I think that call is for the management to take, and I can’t comment much on it. We’ll just try to give our best.”
