How can Pakistan qualify for the semifinal after New Zealand’s loss to England?

Pakistan was handed a lifeline in its quest to qualify for the semifinal after New Zealand succumbed to a four-wicket loss to England in its final T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight fixture in Colombo on Friday.

With just a solitary point in Group 2 so far, after a rained-out encounter against the Kiwis and a loss to England, Pakistan would have been eliminated despite a win in its final encounter if New Zealand had come out as winner.

England’s comeback win now gives the Green and Whites a chance to sneak into the final four in place of Mitchell Santner’s men.

Salman Agha and Co. will have to beat Sri Lanka by 65 runs if it bats first to qualify for the semifinal. In a chase, it must hunt the target down in 13 overs to pip New Zealand’s Net Run Rate.
