Gill gives injury update: Twisted my ankle while taking a run, but it settled down after half an hour
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill on Saturday said he twisted his ankle during his knock of 84 off 44 balls but was able to continue his innings to help his side beat Rajasthan Royals by 77 runs in their Indian Premier League match.
Gill helped set a massive 230-run target for the Royals despite struggling briefly with discomfort in his left foot before reaching his fourth IPL fifty this season.
He shared a commanding 118-run opening stand with Sudharsan (55 off 36 balls) 4 after being asked to bat first. RR was bowled out for 152 in 16.3 overs with veteran leg spinner Rashid Khan returning with impressive figures of four for 33 while Jason Holder took three for 12.
“While taking a run, I think I twisted my ankle a little bit. It was painful. But I think after half an hour or so, it settled down,” Gill said at the post-match presentation.
“Very happy (for the win). Next game is at home and hopefully we will have another good match.”
He added that it was a near perfect match for his side, which jumped up to second in the points table after the win.
“Yeah, definitely (perfect match). Even before this match, we had a conversation that till now I don’t think we had a perfect match. I think this was a clean win for us,” Gill said.
