Finn Allen scores century in 33 balls, fastest in T20 World Cups
Finn Allen of New Zealand on Wednesday struck a century in just 33 balls in the semifinal against South Africa in Kolkata, to record the fastest century in a T20 World Cup match.
Allen’s unbeaten 100 off 33 balls got the Kiwis to the target of 170 runs in just 12.5 overs. He hit 10 fours and eight sixes in his record-breaking knock.
The previous record for the fastest century in a World Cup match belonged to Chris Gayle, who reached the mark in 47 balls against England in 2016.
Allen’s 33-ball century is also the third-fastest hundred in T20Is, equalling the record with Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Sikandar Raza. The fastest T20I century is by Sahil Chauhan of Estonia, off 27 balls.
