Delhi loses to Tripura for the first time ever in domestic cricket

Delhi lost to Tripura for the first time ever in domestic cricket after the north-eastern state secured a 12-run victory in a Group D game of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.

Delhi, led by Nitish Rana, stumbled in a 158-run chase, which saw Tripura skipper Manisankar Murasingh shine with both bat and ball, scoring an unbeaten 25 off 18 and picking two wickets (2/19).

Nitish top-scored with a 40-ball 45, but a middle-order collapse derailed the chase, handing Tripura a historic win and its first points this SMAT season. On the other hand, Delhi suffered its second defeat in four matches.

Losing two out of four matches has left Delhi in a difficult position to qualify for the SMAT knockouts.

Delhi’s dismal result comes only a month after its first-ever loss to Jammu & Kashmir in Ranji Trophy’s history.
