Are Injury Replacements Allowed After the IPL Auction? IPL Rules Explained
Yes, but only under specific conditions. The IPL permits franchises to sign injury replacements after the auction, as long as the player being replaced is officially ruled out of the season by a BCCI-approved medical team. This ruling must come before the side plays its 12th league match, and once a player is replaced, he cannot return in the same season.
Replacements can only be picked from the Registered Available Player Pool, which includes players who entered the auction but went unsold. Teams also cannot pay the replacement more than the original player’s contract value. These signings do not affect the franchise’s salary cap and must still respect the squad size and overseas player limits.
Last IPL, the league also allowed temporary replacements when players left for international duty, but those replacements could not be retained and had to re-enter via the next auction.
