Zaheer on Rishabh Pant’s poor form: Wouldn’t relate it to price-tag pressure

Moments after Rishabh Pant – the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history – fell for his sixth single-digit score in nine innings this season, Lucknow Super Giants mentor Zaheer Khan denied that the LSG captain is feeling the price-tag pressure.

“I wouldn’t relate it to anything like that. He is a leader and he has been fantastic as a leader. That’s something I can vouch for. He’s been taking great efforts to make sure that every individual in that group is comfortable and is heard. And with the planning to do everything which goes around in IPL, he is being spot on,” Zaheer said here on Sunday after LSG suffered a 54-run loss to Mumbai Indians.

“As a leader, he is ticking all the boxes. As a batter, the middle order is dependent on Rishabh. I am very confident that the impact, which we want from him, will come. It’s just about something clicking, so I wouldn’t relate it to pressure.”

Happy with Mayank

Zaheer was also happy with how Mayank Yadav, the pace spearhead, returned after more than seven months with two wickets in his four overs.

“I am happy with the way he has bowled. It’s important that he had to get through the game, so he stayed on the (field for) 20 overs and bowled four overs. The execution is only going to get better along with the speed as he plays more,” Zaheer said.
