Yuki Bhambri Storms Into Miami Open Doubles Quarter-Finals
Indian tennis star Yuki Bhambri has reached back-to-back ATP Masters 1000 doubles quarter-finals, continuing his impressive run at the Miami Open. Partnering with Portugal’s Nuno Borges for the first time, Bhambri has displayed the ability to quickly adjust to playing with different partners.
Bhambri and Borges defeated the experienced pair of Jamie Murray and Adam Pavlasek in Round 2. After a tight first-set tiebreak, they dominated the second set to secure a 7-6(4), 6-2 win. Murray, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, and Pavlasek had earlier upset the 4th seeds Granollers/Zeballos, making the victory even more impressive.
The Indo-Portuguese duo had earlier kicked off their campaign with a stunning comeback against Rohan Bopanna and Ivan Dodig in Round 1. Trailing 3-7 in the match tiebreak, they won seven straight points to clinch a 6-4, 3-6, [10-7] victory. With this win, Bhambri also became India’s No.1 doubles player, ending Bopanna’s 286-week reign.
Now, in just his third Masters 1000 doubles event, Bhambri is set for a quarter-final clash against Britain’s Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool. With momentum on his side, he is proving to be a rising force in the doubles circuit.
