Youth is Served as Earhart Pulls Away in Whimsical
French import Earhart was the only starter in the May 3 Whimsical Stakes (G3) at Woodbine with fewer than 14 starts to her name.
But after capturing the six-furlong contest in just her fourth start (3-0-1), perhaps it’s time to make room for the youth.
Having won her first two starts by a combined 17 3/4 lengths before a third in the Likely Exchange Stakes, the daughter of French group 1 winner Siyouni got back on track Saturday
Jumping out to the lead just strides out of the gate, Earhart entertained would-be challengers but she never relinquished her grasp. Coming around the turn for home, she showed closing power and pulled away for a 5 1/2-length conquest.
She stopped the clock in 1:08.84 under jockey Rafael Hernandez with fractions of :22.92, :45.23, and :56.64. Earhart paid $2.60 to win.
Gal in a Rush , Ms. Tart , Star Candy , and Ticker Tape Home rounded out the order of finish.
