Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shardul Thakur return to Mumbai squad for Ranji Trophy quarterfinals

Back from a long injury layoff, Shardul Thakur will lead Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Karnataka, with Yashasvi Jaiswal named in the 16-member squad.

Jaiswal, who missed the final two group-stage fixtures, had informed the Mumbai Cricket Association of his availability for the knockout phase. The Sanjay Patil-led selection committee subsequently included the India opener in the squad.

Mumbai’s fast-bowling attack looks formidable, featuring Tushar Deshpande, Omkar Tarmale and Mohit Avasthi, and will be further strengthened by Thakur’s return.

Mumbai will enjoy home conditions. The batting unit will be led by Siddhesh Lad, the team’s leading run-scorer this season. Lad has amassed 737 runs from nine innings, including five centuries, and will have support from Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan and Jaiswal.

Mumbai was without Jaiswal for a large part of the season due to international commitments and a bout of acute gastroenteritis, which also kept him out of the early stages of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

With the Wankhede Stadium set to host T20 World Cup matches from February 7, the quarterfinal will be played at the MCA-BKC ground from February 6 to 10.
