WPL Auction 2026: Bangladesh pacer Marufa Akter remains unsold
Bangladesh pace sensation Marufa Akter went unsold at the WPL Auction 2026 in New Delhi on Thursday, failing to attract any bids in the initial round. The 20-year-old, however, could still find a franchise later in the day during the second accelerated auction.
Akter first came under the global spotlight for her prodigious swing during the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, where her raw pace and movement drew widespread attention.
A more emphatic demonstration of her potential had come earlier in Bangladesh’s first-ever ODI win over India in 2023, when she returned figures of 4 for 29, dismissing Smriti Mandhana, Priya Punia, Amanjot Kaur and Sneh Rana to script a landmark victory.
The young pacer had also made a strong impression at the junior level, finishing as Bangladesh’s top wicket-taker at the 2023 Under-19 T20 World Cup, and followed it up with notable performances at the 2022 Asian Games, cementing her reputation as one of Bangladesh’s most exciting fast-bowling prospects.
