Women’s ODI Tri-Series: South Africa’s Chloe Tryon takes hat-trick, helps beat Sri Lanka by 76 runs

South Africa all-rounder Chloe Tryon picked a five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, in her team’s 76-run against Sri Lanka on Friday in the Women’s ODI Tri-Series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

This was the Proteas’ first win in the series but the team was already out of contention for the final coming into this fixture against the host. India and Sri Lanka meet in the summit clash for the title.

Tryon’s hat-trick came in the 42nd over when the left-arm spinner removed Dewmi Vihanga, Sugandika Kumari, and Malki Madara. The 31-year-old also contributed with the bat by smashing a 51-ball 74.

Asked to bat first, South Africa posted a massive target of 316. Annerie Dercksen scored 104 off 84 balls and stitched a 112-run partnership with Tryon.

Despite skipper Chamari Athapaththu’s half-century and Anushka Sanjeewani’s unbeaten knock of 43, inadequate contributions from the batters saw Sri Lanka lose ahead of the final against India.
