Winchell Goes to $2.7 Million for Son of Gun Runner

Just days after Gun Runner  ‘s 2024 champion 3-year-old male Sierra Leone  captured the Whitney Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course, another son of the Three Chimneys Farm stallion commanded $2.7 million from Ron Winchell’s Winchell Thoroughbreds at the Aug. 4 opening session of The Saratoga Sale, Fasig-Tipton’s select yearling sale.

The bay colt, consigned as Hip 37, is out of the graded stakes-winning A.P. Indy mare America , making the yearling a half brother to 2021 Dwyer Stakes (G3) winner First Captain . He was bred in Kentucky by B. Flay Thoroughbreds, and consigned by Stone Farm, agent.
