What is India’s highest PowerPlay score in T20 World Cup history?

India smashed 80 runs for the loss of one wicket in the PowerPlay during its T20 World Cup Super Eight match against Zimbabwe in Chennai on Thursday.

Sanju Samson, who returned to the playing XI in place of Rinku Singh, scored 24 off 15 balls to give India a blazing start. His dismissal in the fourth over didn’t slow India down, as Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan plundered 33 off 13 and 15 off nine, respectively, to continue the team’s momentum.

Their contributions helped India amass its third-highest PowerPlay score in T20 World Cup history. Its highest is 86, against Namibia earlier in this tournament, followed by 82, against Scotland in 2021.
