West Indies vs India Test series stats throwback: Jadeja’s all-round show
5The number of occasions when Ravindra Jadeja did the double of a century and 4-plus wickets in an innings in his Test career. In the Ahmedabad Test, while scoring his sixth Test century, along with a four-wicket haul, he became only the third player in Test cricket history to achieve this rare feat on five or more occasions going level with his former teammate R. Ashwin. Only England’s Ian Botham has done so on more occasions — a record six. For the record, West Indian Garry Sobers and Bangladeshi Shakib Al Hasan have done so on four occasions each.

3The number of Test players who lost the toss in their first six Tests as captain. Shubman Gill, in the Ahmedabad Test, became the latest to join two other Test captains for this unfortunate record. There are two New Zealanders in this list, with one of them losing the toss in his first seven Tests as skipper. Overall, eight other captains (not listed below) have lost the toss in their first five Tests as captain. Aussie Billy Murdoch (from 1880 to 1882) became the first Test captain to lose the first five tosses. Another Indian, Kapil Dev (in the five-match Test series in the Caribbean between February and May 1983), lost all five tosses as captain in his debut series, like Gill did, in the 2025 series against England.

7The number of Test centuries for Yashasvi Jaiswal before the age of 24 years. He thus becameonly the eighth batter in Test cricket history to register seven or more centuries before the age of 24. Aussie Sir Don Bradman (12 centuries) and Indian Sachin Tendulkar (11) are the only batters with 10 or more centuries before 24. However, as an opening batter, his tally of Test centuries equals South African Graeme Smith. They both have seven centuries before the age of 24 while opening the batting. The table below have the details.

5The number of Indian batters who have had the misfortune of being dismissed run out after making scores of 150-plus in a Test innings. Jaiswal, in the Delhi Test, is the latest and is also the first Indian opener to be dismissed in that manner. The previous highest by an Indian opener was the 131 by Navjot Singh Sidhu against Sri Lanka in Mohali in November 1997. Incidentally, Jaiswal’s 175 is the seventh-highest score by an opener who was run out in Test cricket. West Indian Conrad Hunte’s 260 (run out) against Pakistan in Kingston in March 1958 is the highest score.

27The number of successive Tests India has not lost against the West Indies since its last defeat in Kingston on 22 May 2002. India’s unbeaten run against this opponent has been extended now for 23 years, six days. However, this is not anywhere a Test record, as England had not lost any of its first 47 Tests against New Zealand, spanning little more than 45 years from 1930 to 1975.

10The number of Test series won in a row by India against the West Indies. Since losing the five-match Test series 2-1 in the Caribbean in April-May 2002, India has not lost a single Test match against this opponent — in the last 27 Tests (spanning 10 series) between the two sides, with India winning 17, and 10 Tests ending in a draw. By doing so, it now equals the Test record for the most Test series wins in a row with South Africa, which had also won its last 10 series against the very same opponent.
