Well-Connected Yearlings Highlight Tattersalls Book 2


A half brother to last month’s July Cup (G1) hero No Half Measures  and a half sister to Shes Perfect , who finished first-past-the-post in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (G1), are among the highlights of the Tattersalls Book 2 catalog to be held Oct. 13-15.

No Half Measures’s Territories  half brother (Lot 789) will be offered by Finbar Kent, while the Calyx  half sister (824) to Shes Perfect will feature among the offering from Baroda Stud and they are among a host of yearlings in the sale who can boast group 1 winners as their siblings. Ballylinch Stud will offer a Lope De Vega   full sister to Place Du Carrousel  (1298), victorious in the Prix de l’Opera (G1), while Lynn Lodge Stud’s draft includes a Naval Crown  half sister to group 1-winning sprinter A Case Of You (918).

Staffordstown Stud, Kirsten Rausing’s Irish farm, sends two half siblings to top-level winners to the sale. A Study Of Man   half sister to multiple Australian group 1 victor Zaaki (921) and a Wootton Bassett  half brother to a pair of Hong Kong group 1 heroes in Glorious Forever and Time Warp (865) are among the highlights of the draft.

In total, 206 yearlings who are either siblings or half siblings to black-type winners have been cataloged for the sale which takes place from Monday, Oct. 13 to Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The catalog includes the offspring of 119 group or listed-winning mares with colts from the first crop of Baaeed  including a one out of Prix de Diane (G1) winner Star Of Seville (1242) and another out of Seal Of Approval (1183), who was successful in the British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes (G1). The pair are consigned by Daylesford Farm and Watership Down Stud respectively.

Dubawi ‘s stallion sons enjoyed another stellar weekend and Chasemore Farm offers a Zarak  colt out of Chachamaidee (663), promoted to first in the Matron Stakes (G1), while Galbertstown Stables consigns a colt from the third crop of Ghaiyyath  out of Prix de l’Opera (G1) winner Shalanaya (1193).

Havana Grey ‘s yearlings are his most expensively bred to come on the market and 41 members of his fifth crop, who were conceived at a fee of £18,500, have been cataloged for the sale. He is followed closely by Blue Point  (36) and Mehmas  with 33 yearlings.

Proven top-class stallions with progeny in the catalog include Lope De Vega, Sea The Stars , Too Darn Hot  and Wootton Bassett and, in addition to Baaeed, the first crops of group 1 winners Bayside Boy , Blackbeard , Epicenter  , Golden Pal  , Minzaal , Naval Crown, Perfect Power , State Of Rest , Stradivarius  and Thunder Moon  all have representatives in Book 2.

Book 3 follows on immediately from Book 2 and will take place over two days; Thursday, Oct. 16 and Friday, Oct. 17. All 558 yearlings cataloged in Book 3 are eligible for the £200,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes and the £200,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes run at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile and July course respectively.

Edmond Mahony, chairman of Tattersalls, is delighted with the depth of the catalogs.

“Book 2 continues to go from strength to strength, with this year’s racecourse ambassadors including Prince of Wales’s Stakes winner Ombudsman, global stars Romantic Warrior, Dubai Honour, and Believing, plus exciting 2-year-old Zavateri, purchased for just 35,000 guineas,” Mahony said. 

“Book 3 has also excelled, producing 2025 European Classic winners Lady Ilze  (German One-Thousand Guineas (G1) and Molveno (Derby Italiano) for only 11,000 and 32,000 guineas respectively. Together, they showcase the outstanding quality and value on offer during the second week of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.”
