U-19 Tri-Series: Vedant Trivedi guides India B to two-wicket win over Afghanistan
Vedant Trivedi anchored a tense chase with a 102-ball 83 as India B edged past Afghanistan by two wickets in the Under-19 Tri-Series in Bengaluru on Tuesday. It was India B’s first win of the tournament after three straight defeats to the same opponent and India A.
Besides Trivedi, skipper Aaron George made a crucial 42, while BK Kishore (29 not out) and Deepesh Devendran (20 not out) finished the game with 11 balls to spare. India B, however, had been in deep trouble at 115 for six in the 30th over, with Nazifullah Amiri and Salam Khan doing the damage, before George and Trivedi steadied the chase.
Earlier, opting to field under partly cloudy skies, George’s decision paid off as Afghanistan was restricted to 202 for nine. Left-arm spinner Kishore led the bowling effort with figures of 3/19 from 10 overs, while Devendran (2/38) and Rohit Das (2/29) chipped in with two wickets apiece.
Uzairullah Niazai top-scored for Afghanistan with a composed 96 off 107 balls after the visitor had slipped to 78 for five in the 25th over. Lower-order contributions from Nazifullah Amiri (17) and Khatir Stanikzai (24) helped Afghanistan cross the 200-run mark.
