Tiz the Law Bolstered by Two New Graded Stakes Winners

A single hour on Nov. 8 at Aqueduct Racetrack gave a major boost to the burgeoning career of second-season sire, Tiz the Law  . At 2:44, the field for the Hill Prince Stakes (G3T) left the stalls, the race in a neck victor for Tiz the Law’s son, Tiz Dashing . Sixty minutes later came the Mother Goose Stakes (G2), where Tiz the Law’s daughter, Fully Subscribed , ran out a dominant winner of the Mother Goose Stakes (G2), scoring by  41/2 lengths over the Kentucky Oaks (G1) runner-up, Drexel Hill .

Tiz the Law now sits third on the Leading Second Crop sire table, behind Vekoma   and McKinzie  , the same trio in the same order having topped the Leading First Crop Sire List in 2024.

A son of Constitution  , Tiz the Law was similarly effective at both two and three in his racing career. At two, he gained a grade one victory in the Champagne Stakes (G1). At three, in the COVID impacted 2020 season, he took in succession the Holy Bull Stakes (G1), Florida Derby (G1), Belmont Stakes (G1)—run that year over ten furlongs at Saratoga Race Course—and Travers Stakes (G1), then ran second beaten 1 1/4 lengths by eventually champion 3-year-old male and Horse of the Year in a Kentucky Derby (G1) run in September.

Tiz the Law now has eight stakes winners from 83 starters in his first crop, including other graded stakes winners, Tiztastic —notably successful in the Louisiana Derby (G2)—Scythian  and Non Compliant. He’s also represented by second crop stakes winners Dixie Law , who has taken the Mazarine Stakes (G3) and Cup and Saucer Stakes in Canada, Wayne’s Law , and Spirit Doll

The Hill Prince was Tiz Dashing’s first stakes score in seven tries in black-type events, stretching back to a second in the Awad Stakes last October. He also had taken third in the Manila Stakes (G3T) and National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (G2T).

Tiz Dashing is the second foal of his dam, Breaking Beauty, a 2-year-old winner by Into Mischief  . The second dam, Que Belle, is by Seattle Dancer, a Nijinsky II half brother to Seattle Slew. She initially raced in Germany, where she won the Henkel-Rennen-German One Thousand Guineas (G2) and Preis der Diana-German Oaks (G2). Second in the Prix Ganay (G1) in France at four, Que Belle raced in the U.S. at five, gaining a victory in the Osunitas Handicap. At stud, she produced the Gone West colt, Quetsche, successful in the Prix de Royaumont (G3), and Osidy, a Storm Cat son who captured the Will Rogers Stakes (G3T). She is also the second dam of Wootton’sun, a black-type winner in Saudi Arabia.

Tiz Dashing is one of ten stakes winners by Pulpit line stallions out of Into Mischief mares, the others including grade one winners White Abarrio and Alva Star. Tiz the Law has Tiz Dashing and this year’s Hopeful Stakes (G1) third, Curtain Call , from six starters out of Into Mischief mares, and he is also responsible for stakes winner Wayne’s Law as his only starter out of a mare by Into Mischief’s sire, Harlan’s Holiday.

Unlike Tiz Dashing, who’d been a frequent campaigner in black-type company, Fully Subscribed was trying added-money competition for the first time and was making only her fourth start. She won by four lengths on her debut, which came last October in a seven-furlong maiden special weight at Belmont At The Big A. She wasn’t seen again until Sep. 1, this year, when she finished a running-on third in a Saratoga allowance event. She made her only other start four weeks later, and went down by a neck to Points Is Points in an allowance/optional claiming event at the same meet.

Fully Subscribed wins the Mother Goose Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack

Fully Subscribed is the second foal of Sweetbaby, a three-time winner by Candy Ride  . The second dam, Rutherienne, a daughter of Pulpit, was a top-class turf mare, winning ten black-type events, eight graded, headlined by the Del Mar Oaks (G1T). Rutherienne’s full sister, Ruthenia, wasn’t quite as good, but still won three black-type events, including the Violet Stakes (G3T), and when bred to Fully Subscribed’s broodmare sire, Candy Ride, produced the stakes winners Pubilius Syrus and Our Bay B Ruth.

Rutherienne and Ruthian are out of the stakes-winning Ruthian. A daughter of Rahy, Ruthian is out of the graded stakes-placed Lyphard mare Adoryphar. She is a half sister to the graded stakes winning Adcat; to the stakes winning and grade one placed Alydar daughter, Adorydar; and to Adorahy (also by Rahy), dam of stakes winner and Preakness Stakes (G1) third Icabad Crane and of stakes winner Our Golden Dream, and granddam of Need I Say More, co-highweight at two in New Zealand.

Inbred 3×4 to Pulpit, Fully Subscribed has an interesting pedigree link to Tiz Dashing, beyond being paternal half-siblings. Her broodmare sire, Candy Ride, is by Ride the Rails, whose granddam is Alanesian, and Tiz Dashing’s broodmare sire, Into Mischief, is by Harlan’s Holiday, who has Alanesian as his fourth dam. Tiz the Law has a double of Seattle Slew, and his sire, Bold Reasoning, is by Boldnesian, a son of Alanesian.
