Tilak scores brisk 38 in T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up game against USA

Indian batter Tilak Varma scored a brisk 24-ball 38 on his return from injury during the T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up fixture between India A and the USA at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Monday.

Tilak had missed the five-match T20I series against New Zealand after undergoing a minor procedure following a groin injury suffered during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. After rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, the Hyderabad southpaw was drafted into the India A squad to get himself upto speed ahead of the global tournament.

Tilak constructed a 113-run stand for the second wicket with N. Jagadeesan, collecting three fours and two sixes during his stay at the crease.

Tilak was India’s hero in the Asia Cup 2025 final against arch-rival Pakistan, scoring a patient 53-ball 69 to guide his team to victory. His spot in the XI however has come under the scanner after Ishan Kishan’s pyrotechnics during his absence.

Kishan, who played a starring role in Jharkhand’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph, aggregated 215 runs in four matches against the Kiwis, including a century in the fifth T20I in Thiruvananthapuram. With the keeper-batter in fine form, one of Tilak or Sanju Samson could miss out on the playing eleven.
