T20 World Cup 2026 — Abhishek Sharma hospitalised before India vs Namibia: Reports

Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised with an upset stomach ahead of the group match against Namibia at the T20 World Cup, according to several media reports.

The explosive left-hander, ranked No. 1 among T20 batters, is one of India’s key factors in its title-defence. However, Abhishek now remains doubtful for the Group A fixture on Thursday in New Delhi.

According to AFP, the 25-year-old has reportedly been admitted to a Delhi hospital on Tuesday after he missed training with a stomach issue he carried from the opening clash against the United States of America in Mumbai on February 7.

India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate acknowledged the concern, saying the batter had “still got a few issues with his tummy”. “We hope that he’ll be available for the game in a few days’ time,” he said.

Abhishek was dismissed for a duck in India’s 29-run win over the United States but has had a good spell building up to the tournament, scoring 182 runs in five T20Is against New Zealand, including a blistering 35-ball 82.

After the Namibia clash, India travels to Sri Lanka to face arch-rival Pakistan on February 15. Though Pakistan had earlier decided to boycott the match, it eventually agreed to go ahead with the fixture, set to be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
