Sunil Gavaskar to deliver Jagmohan Dalmiya Memorial Lecture
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar will deliver the Jagmohan Dalmiya Memorial Lecture in Kolkata on November 13.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly confirmed to Sportstar that as the Lecture returns after a long hiatus, Gavaskar will be the key speaker.
The iconic Eden Gardens will be hosting the first Test between India and South Africa, and to make the event special, the CAB has decided to revive the lecture, which could not be held since 2019. While some of the cricketing bigwigs have been invited, there is a possibility that the officials of the BCCI could also be present for the event, which is held to pay homage to Dalmiya, a former CAB, BCCI and ICC chief, who passed away in 2015.

Earlier, there were speculations that former South African administrator Dr. Ali Bacher could headline the lecture, however, with the veteran administrator’s health issues, the idea had to be dropped.

In the past, the legends of the game – Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Graeme Smith and Kumar Sangakkara – have delivered the lecture. In 2020, Ganguly, the then BCCI president, was supposed to be the key speaker, but the event had to be called off due to the COVID-19-induced nation-wide lockdown.
In another development, Eden Gardens and the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack could host a white-ball women’s cricket series between India and Bangladesh in December.
The BCCI officials told this publication that the itinerary is yet to be finalised and a decision on the series could be taken by next week, even though the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced that its squad will travel to India around December 15.
“The series is part of the ICC-approved FTP, but the discussions are on, and a decision on the venues and the dates will be finalised soon by the two boards,” a BCCI source confirmed.
