Sumit Nagal Snaps Tom Gentzsch’s 10-Match Streak, Advances at ATP Heilbronn Challenger
Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal began his title defense at the ATP Challenger Heilbronn 2025 in dominant fashion, defeating Germany’s Tom Gentzsch 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round.
Ranked ATP World No. 170, Nagal ended 445th ranked Gentzsch’s remarkable 10-match winning streak on clay, which included consecutive ITF M15 titles in Båstad, Sweden, and Kotka, Finland earlier in May 2025. Gentzsch had not dropped a set across those tournaments, but he was outclassed by the defending champion in an hour and 25 minutes on the German clay courts.
Nagal, who won the Heilbronn Challenger in 2024, is aiming to defend his crown amidst a challenging season so far that has seen his ranking drop outside the ATP Top 150. He will next face Mexico’s Rodrigo Pacheco Méndez (ATP #266), a former Junior World No. 1, in the second round on Wednesday.
