Sumit Nagal enters ATP Braga Challenger Round 2
India’s Sumit Nagal continued his fine run at the ATP 75 Braga Challenger, cruising past Portugal’s Frederico Ferreira Silva 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round.
Nagal, currently ranked 289, came through two rounds of qualifying before dismantling Silva (ranked 234) in just over an hour and a half. Nagal had earlier come through two rounds of qualifying.
The 28-year-old will now face the tournament’s second seed, Spain’s Roberto Carballés Baena (world No. 113), for a place in the quarterfinals. Carballés Baena, who has a career-high ranking of 49, has enjoyed a solid season with a third-round appearance at the Australian Open and a semifinal finish on clay in the ATP 250 Marrakech Open.
It will be the first career meeting between Nagal and Carballés Baena.
