SMAT 2025-26: Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube available for Mumbai

In a major boost to Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube will be available for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, beginning next week.

Confirming the development to Sportstar, Mumbai chief selector Sanjay Patil said, “I spoke to Surya this afternoon and he told me that he will be available for the entire tournament. So, is the case with Shivam. We will pick the team on Friday…”

While there is a buzz that if Suryakumar is available for the tournament, he could be handed over the captaincy for Mumbai’s T20 side, Patil, however, clarified that no such decision has been made yet.

In the Ranji Trophy, Shardul Thakur has successfully led Mumbai, which is on top of the points table in Group D.

While India’s T20I captain Suryakumar and Dube will travel to Lucknow with the Mumbai team, it is unlikely that the duo will feature in all the group league fixtures as India’s T20I series against South Africa will begin on December 9.

“We will have a discussion tomorrow and decide on the future course of action. For now, we will pick the side keeping in mind the fact that both Surya and Shivam will be available,” Patil said.

The Mumbai chief selector also clarified that as of now, there are no plans of promoting Sarfaraz Khan as an opener in the T20 team. A final decision will be taken by the team management after assessing the situation in Lucknow.

Mumbai will begin its campaign against Railways on November 26.
