Shardul rested, Siddhesh Lad to lead Mumbai in Vijay Hazare Trophy knockouts
With Shardul Thakur advised to rest for three weeks and Shreyas Iyer joining the Indian team for the ODI series against New Zealand, Siddhesh Lad will lead Mumbai in the knockouts of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
While Shardul, Sylvester D’Souza and Chinmay Sutar, who featured in the group stage, will be released for the knockouts, the selectors have called up Atharva Ankolekar and Mohit Avasthi, and both will link up with the squad in Bengaluru.
Lad, who was Mumbai’s designated vice-captain for the season, had to miss out on the larger part of the Vijay Hazare group stage as the team management had to accommodate the India internationals.

“Being a seasoned campaigner, Siddhesh’s experience will count, and with the core of the team intact, the team will be hoping to clinch the title,” a source said.
Mumbai had a memorable run in the group stage, winning six of its seven games and finishing as the topper of Group C. While Sarfaraz Khan was among the leading run-getters from the side, youngsters Musheer Khan and Angkrish Raghuvanshi also stepped up when it mattered.
The team will travel to Bengaluru from Jaipur on Friday, and will train for the next couple of days, before the knockout stage gets underway at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence from next Monday.
