Sanju Samson scores second consecutive fifty during India vs England T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal
Sanju Samson continued his good form at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 by striking his second consecutive half-century during the semifinal against England in Mumbai on Thursday.
The opener, who scored a match-winning unbeaten 97 in the Super Eight contest against West Indies, followed it up with a blistering knock against Harry Brook’s side.
Sanju was expected to be tested by the express pace of Jofra Archer in the PowerPlay, but took the attack to the pacer, punishing his inability to bowl it fuller. However, he did receive a lifeline when skipper Brook spilt a straightforward chance at mid-on off a miscued shot.

The opener has the second-best strike-rate in the PowerPlay among batters to have aggregated at least 100 runs in the phase (198.21). Only Finn Allen (204.65) has scored at a more rapid pace.
The 31-year-old has already broken the record for the highest score by an Indian wicket-keeper in ICC T20 World Cup knockout games, beating M.S. Dhoni’s record of 36 against Australia in 2007.
