Samson overtakes Kohli’s best score in a T20 World Cup chase by an Indian

Sanju Samson broke Virat Kohli’s record of scoring most runs by an Indian in a T20 World Cup run chase in the match against West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

Samson scored an unbeaten 97 off just 50 balls to overcome a daunting 196-run target, going past Kohli’s 82 not out against Australia (2016) and Pakistan (2022).

His innings helped India complete the chase with four balls to spare. It’s the joint third-highest chase in the T20 World Cup history.

India was on the backfoot with Abhishek Sharma falling for an 11-ball 10. Ishan Kishan too departed after a six-ball 10. Samson took over the mantle and helped India qualify for the semifinals.
