Rinku Singh’s father passes away after battling cancer

India batter Rinku Singh suffered a personal tragedy on Friday morning after his father, Khanchand Singh, passed away at a private hospital in Greater Noida.

He was battling stage four cancer.

The news was reportedly confirmed by the hospital authorities on Friday, with condolences flooding in soon after.

“Pained to learn about the demise of Shri Khanchand Singh Ji, father of Rinku Singh. This must be an especially difficult time for Rinku and his family, even as he remains committed to his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup,” former India spinner Harbhajan Singh wrote on X.

“My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family.”

Rinku had to return home for a family emergency 48 hours before India’s Super Eights match in the T20 World Cup 2026 against Zimbabwe, but had returned to the squad before the match. However, he did not feature in the playing XI, with Sanju Samson replacing him in the team.
